I agree that Core is the best STP album.

Thanks for the reply!

I was starting to worry that STP is too old for this place

No problem. It’s sad when your 16, and one of the bands you like is seen as too old for OPPO.

I’d like to know how many here got their first taste of Wicked Garden by listening to the Classic Rock station :\

I got my first taste of Wicked Garden listening to my local Classic Rock station. I bought the album, and then discovered Dead and Bloated :D

STP is too young for this place AND too old for this place. Also, Purple FTW.

No. 4 is better than Purple

I dunno. I wouldn’t say I’m convinced No. 4 is better, but I think Purple is close to being an AC/DCish variations on a musical theme album. If it’s just one song, it’s a really good one, though. Kind of like AiC’s Dirt.

1. Core

Other albums not #1.

Yep.

Side note, I'm old enough that I saw them live in support for Core (they opened for Megadeth).

No. 4 is good in parts or as a whole. Purple has a good number of hit-and-miss; not nearly as much as Tiny Music... but No. 4 is more cohesive and marathonable.

At least give your top three :\

Core

Purple

Shangri-La Dee Da

With a huge gulf between 1 and 2, and nearly an equally large gulf between 2 and 3.

And honestly, everything else is just kind of “other STP releases”.

What did you find enjoyable about SLDD? I couldn’t stomach the album when it came out, still can’t today

As an album? It kind of fails. But some of the tracks just connected with me. It took a few listens. There was something to some of the songs that I just liked. The last 4 tracks were my favorites... Eventually I listened to it through and came to accept it as an album. It wasn’t an easy album to like at first, my easier to explain answer would be to put Tiny Music as number 3, but I haven’t gone back to listen to it in years.

ETA: It’s a decent driving album once you’ve got past the initial “WTH is this?” phase.

I’ve always listened to STP as a collection of singles rather than albums. Then again, I was born the year Core came out.

Core, Purple and No. 4 are albums you should listen to front to back [Good News!™ they’re readily available on the YouGooglyTubes]

Oh, I’ve been through Core dozens of times probably, it was the only one I had on CD growing up. Since I read this post I’ve gotten most of the way through No. 4 (I’ve really enjoyed it), and I think I’ve actually gotten through all the other albums on Spotify.

I guess to me, their albums (with Core and Purple as an exceptions) don’t have the kinda wholeness that I look for if I’m gonna go through an album at a time. Its hard to explain. I guess they tend to feel more like bundles of songs, rather than as a single work with a unified theme?

I can see that with Tiny Music... and everything post No. 4. Even No. 4 can feel a bit inconsistent at times but I dunno; I love that album too much
